Maryland Therapeutic Riding Announces Winter Sessions

Maryland Therapeutic Riding, an organization that works to bring the physical and psychological benefits of the sport of riding to the disabled, is looking for individuals with disabilities and an interest in horses to join its upcoming winter session. The organization is expanding its programs to make use of a new facility. "We have a spectacular new indoor ring that allows all-weather riding and we are so anxious to introduce new riders to our Horses That Heal program," said Naomi Parry, Maryland Therapeutic Riding’s Executive Director.

The session includes eight weeks of 45 minute riding lessons at a cost of $480 plus a $50 per family annual registration fee. Trained instructors and volunteers work with students to ensure safety while motivating participants to enjoy themselves.

From the Maryland Therapeutic Riding release:
MTR strives to improve the lives of special needs riders of all ages through a therapeutic riding program designed to address a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional disabilities. Conditions served include: cerebral palsy, spina bifida, neuromuscular disorders, post-traumatic brain injury, autism, ADHD, and cognitive disorders. Riders experience increased self-confidence and improvement in strength, balance, coordination, attention span, language and social skills.
Disabled individuals of all ages are encouraged to participate in the winter program. Interested riders must fill out a Rider Application Packet.
